River stones

Riverstones

Behold the beauty of river stones,
These elements smooth as eggs.
Just so does friendship mold our souls,
Edges slowly rounded in the wash of time.

Small separate words, events, places, hugs
Make up the stream, but behold!
The river is one, and its current is the hand
With which it softens stone.

The water’s course meanders through the years,
The river stones its pastel pinto base. The current
Hugs us in communion, reducing hearts
To the simplest shape of all: an oval egg of love.
