Feel the Hug

Dragonfly dips, swallow soars,
Centipede skims the Asian earth.
Curiosity and smiles surprise us
Like welcome mats.

Between us, music is a wide jade river,
A wide strong river. Our separate words,
Swept on ancient currents,
Drift like fallen leaves.

We run downstream to catch them,
You on your side, we on ours,
Across the broad green water.

The river narrows, gathers force.
Our hands reach for the leaves above its might.
Beneath a golden bowl of light
Our arms reach out. Our fingers touch.

Upon this bridge of young delight
Dragonfly, swallow, centipede dance
And friendship holds us in her arms.
